Watches & Warnings

Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 2:43 AM CDT Jul. 24, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning in effect from 11 am this morning to
7 PM CDT this evening...

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued an excessive
heat warning... which is in effect from 11 am this morning to 7 PM
CDT this evening.

* Temperatures... highs in the lower 90s this afternoon.

* Heat Index... Peak afternoon heat index values of 100 to 107
degrees.

* Impacts... there is a high risk of heat related illnesses for
people with prolonged outdoor exposure... or without access to
air conditioning. The elderly... small children... and pets are
especially susceptible to the heat.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
water... stay in an air conditioned room... stay out of the sun...
and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets
should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances. This is especially true during hot weather when
car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of
minutes.
