the Flood Warning continues for
the Des Plaines river at Riverside.
* Until late Tuesday night.
* At 345 PM Friday the stage was 7.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 7.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 9.0 feet by
Sunday afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage Tuesday
evening.
* Impact... at 8.5 feet... damage begins to residences in vicinity of
Junction of Salt Creek and Des Plaines river.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Des Plaines river at River Forest.
* From Saturday afternoon to late Monday night.
* At 400 PM Friday the stage was 14.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by Saturday afternoon and
continue to rise to near 17.2 feet by Sunday evening.The river will
fall below flood stage by Monday evening.
* Impact... at 17.5 feet... between 17.5 and 18.5 water overflows banks
behind homes on River Oaks drive and floods residential area.

the Flood Warning continues for
the Des Plaines river near Des Plaines.
* Until further notice.
* At 345 PM Friday the stage was 17.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Recent activity... gage datum was changed by 10 feet on Nov 14 2014.
Flood thresholds and flood impacts are now 10 feet higher than
previous values.
* Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 20.2 feet by
Sunday afternoon then begin falling.
* Impact... at 20.0 feet... flooding affects large areas near the river
with numerous homes impacted.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for poor drainage areas
for...
northeastern Kane County in northeastern Illinois...
northeastern DuPage County in northeastern Illinois...
northern Cook County in northeastern Illinois...

* until 815 PM CDT

* at 516 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in
the advisory area. One to two inches of rain has already fallen.
Additional heavy rain is possible with thunderstorms this evening
and tonight.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Chicago, Elgin, Arlington Heights, Evanston, Schaumburg, Palatine,
Skokie, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Hoffman Estates, Oak Park,
Elmhurst, Carpentersville, Park Ridge, Addison, Algonquin, Rolling
Meadows, Maywood, Morton Grove and Roselle.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

* From late tonight to Sunday evening.
* At 400 PM Friday the stage was 4.4 feet.
* Action stage is 5.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 7.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will rise to near 6.6 feet by Saturday
afternoon.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Saturday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of north central Illinois and northeast Illinois,
including the following areas, in north central Illinois,
Boone, De Kalb, La Salle, Lee, Ogle, and Winnebago. In
northeast Illinois, Cook, dupage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake
IL, McHenry, and will.

* Through Saturday morning.

* Multiple rounds of thunderstorms producing torrential rainfall
with rates up to two inches per hour are likely to move across
portions of north central and northeast Illinois late this
afternoon through early Saturday morning.

* Additional heavy rainfall could exacerbate flooding already
occurring across portions of northern Illinois... producing new
rises on area rivers and creeks. With the ground already
saturated in many areas... heavy rainfall will likely quickly
produce runoff and produce flash flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
