* until 1130 am EDT Wednesday

* at 1032 PM EDT, local law enforcement officials report that
several roads across the warned area remain closed due to high
water and water levels were still inching upward on several creeks
and tributaries, primarily across Nash, Wilson and Johnston
counties. Thus, the areal Flood Warning has been extended through
Wednesday morning.

* Some locations that will experience flooding of roads and low water
crossings include...
Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Rocky Mount, Goldsboro, Tarboro,
Smithfield, Nashville, Creedmoor and Louisburg.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Neuse River at Smithfield.
* At 9:15 PM Tuesday the stage was 20.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 24.4 feet by
tomorrow afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage
Friday morning.
* Impact... at 23.0 feet, hospital and Buffalo roads are flooded.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Neuse River near Clayton.
* At 9:15 PM Tuesday the stage was 18.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 19.9 feet
late tomorrow night. The river will fall below flood stage late
Thursday morning.
* Impact... at 18.0 feet, Castleberry Road off nc42 is flooded and
water floods the parking lot of East Clayton Elementary School.
Flooding reaches the lower Concrete span of the bridge on Covered
Bridge Road.
