Flood Warning
Issued: 10:21 PM EDT Apr. 18, 2019 – National Weather Service

The Flood Warning continues for
the Connecticut River at Hartford.
* Until further notice... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 9:30 PM Thursday the stage was 19.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 19.0 feet by
tonight.
* Impact... at 19.0 feet... flooding of low lying areas below Hartford
is expected, especially in areas that are outside of levee
protection. Flooding also affects low lying areas upstream of
Hartford, including a portion of Windsor where the Farmington River
empties into the Connecticut River. Further downstream flooding
closes most of Meadow Road, Route 17a, in Portland. Flooding
impacts the Middletown Marina and Meadow farms. In Cromwell,
portions of River Road will be closed. Flooding continues along the
river through Essex.

... Flood Watch remains in effect from late tonight through
Saturday evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northern Connecticut and Massachusetts, including
the following areas, in northern Connecticut, Hartford,
Tolland, and Windham. In Massachusetts, Franklin, Hampden,
Hampshire, and Worcester.

* From late tonight through Saturday evening

* widespread rain with embedded heavier showers is expected to
develop late Friday night continuing through Saturday evening.

* Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts
may result in urban and poor drainage flooding.

* In addition, the heavy rainfall will exacerbate mainstem river
flooding along the Connecticut River. It may also contribute to
sharp rises for a few smaller streams throughout the watch area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
