Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 9:37 AM CDT Jun. 29, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Kansas and Missouri, including the following
areas, in Kansas, Atchison KS, Doniphan, Johnson KS,
Leavenworth, and Wyandotte. In Missouri, Adair, Andrew,
Atchison MO, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Chariton, Clay,
Clinton, Daviess, De Kalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt,
Jackson, Linn MO, Livingston, Macon, Mercer, Nodaway, Platte,
Randolph, ray, Sullivan, and Worth.

* Through Friday morning

* in Harrison County the Bethany City Reservoir levels are within
couple feet from over topping the dam. This dam is located on
the north side of Bethany and if water levels continue to rise
there is a risk of flooding along the low lying areas of the
East Fork Big Creek Basin. This could have effects on the
western portions of Bethany as the water travels down the East
Fork Big Creek.

* Additional rounds of thunderstorms will lead to periods of
heavy rainfall, which could result in flash flooding from this
morning through Friday morning. Rainfall totals will approach
2 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. This
rainfall will fall on already saturated ground where
widespread 4 to 8 inches has already fallen.

* Excessive rainfall may result in flooding of low-lying or poor
drainage areas... creeks and streams... as well as urban areas.
In addition to the flash flood hazard, Rising River levels are
also likely.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
