Watches & Warnings

High Surf Warning, Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 12:09 AM PST Jan. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High surf warning remains in effect until 9 am PST this
morning...
... Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 am PST this
morning...

* coastal flooding... minor coastal flooding of beach parking
lots... walkways and campgrounds is possible around the time of
high tides... around 6 am this morning.

* Surf... surf of 20 to 30 feet will lower to 12 to 18 feet during
the mid morning hours today. Surf should stay above advisory
levels through at least Tuesday.

* Impacts... the large surf could damage coastal piers through
mid morning. There is an increased risk for ocean drowning.
Rip currents can pull swimmer and surfers out to sea. Breaking
waves can cause injury... wash people off beaches or rocks and
capsize small boats nearshore. Minor flooding of coastal parking
lots and walkways is possible. Significant beach erosion is
expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf warning means that large and battering surf could
damage coastal structures and will make swimming and rock jetties
very dangerous.

Remember... swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current
remain calm. Don't fight the current. Swim in a direction
following the shoreline. When out of the current... swim back to
shore. If tired... float or tread water until out of the rip
current. If unable to escape... face the shore and call or wave
for help.

A coastal Flood Advisory means that minor and shallow flooding is
occurring or imminent. Avoid low-lying coastal areas... especially
during high tides.

Wind Advisory
Issued: 3:39 AM PST Jan. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Wind Advisory now in effect until noon PST today...

* winds and timing... southeast to south winds 20 to 30 mph with
gusts to 45 to 55 mph are expected to shift to southwest and
diminish around noon.

* Impacts... gusty winds will make driving difficult... especially
for drivers of high profile vehicles. Since the soils are
wet... there is a heightened potential for downed trees and
power lines.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

When driving... use extra caution. Be prepared for sudden gusty
cross winds.

Gale Warning
Issued: 8:52 PM PST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Gale Warning remains in effect until noon PST Sunday...
... Small Craft Advisory will expire at 9 PM PST this evening...

* winds... southeast winds will increase to 20 to 35 kt with gusts
to 45 kt late this evening and continue through Sunday morning.

* Seas... combined seas of 22 to 25 feet this evening will subside
to 16 to 19 feet with periods around 16 seconds.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
