Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 10:31 PM EDT Jul. 22, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 8 am EDT Tuesday...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and
southeast New York, including the following areas, in southern
Connecticut, northern Fairfield, northern New Haven, southern
Fairfield, and southern New Haven. In northeast New Jersey,
eastern Bergen, eastern Essex, eastern Passaic, eastern Union,
Hudson, western Bergen, western Essex, western Passaic, and
western Union. In southeast New York, Bronx, Kings (brooklyn),
New York (manhattan), northern Nassau, northern Queens,
northern Westchester, Orange, Putnam, Richmond (staten
island), Rockland, southern Nassau, southern Queens, and
southern Westchester.

* Until 8 am EDT Tuesday

* as much as 1 to 3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts,
have fallen across the watch area today. Scattered heavy rain
showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue to move across
the area overnight into Tuesday morning. Swaths of rainfall
totals of 1 to 1 1/2 inches are likely with locally higher
amounts possible.

* Although the widespread flash flooding threat has diminished for
the overnight, any additional heavy rain moving over already
saturated grounds, will cause localized flash flooding. This
will be especially true in areas of poor drainage, low-lying
areas, and in urban areas.

* A few fast reacting rivers and streams may see rises once again,
with flooding possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
