Issued: 11:55 AM AKDT Jul. 30, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
the lower Koyukuk and middle Yukon valleys.

* Until noon akdt Sunday

* between 1 and 3 inches of rain has fallen over the area through
Saturday morning... with the heaviest amounts along and north of
the Yukon river. Up to an additional inch is expected through
Sunday morning... with the heaviest amounts south and east of the
Yukon river.

* The recent heavy rainfall will cause rapid rises in small
streams... especially in hilly terrain. Localized flooding in low
lying areas is also possible. The major rivers... including the
Koyukuk and Yukon... are expected to remain below flood stage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Residents and people recreating on rivers should closely monitor
water levels for rapid changes. Do not attempt to travel across
flooded roads or trails.

To report flooding... contact your local Village official or public
safety officer who can relay the report to the National Weather
Service.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated... or
ponding of water is occurring or is imminent.

... The Flood Advisory remains in effect until midnight akdt Sunday
for the southern Seward Peninsula and Nulato Hills...

As of 1000 am akdt 1 to 2 inches of rain has fallen over the
advisory area. Additional rainfall of up to one half inch is
expected south of Shaktoolik this afternoon... with little to no
rainfall expected from Shaktoolik north.

Rapid rises in small streams are expected to continue. The larger
rivers in the area... including the niukluk and Koyuk rivers... rising
to near bankfull levels today. These rises of streams and rivers
will result in minor flooding of low lying areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Residents and people recreating on rivers should closely monitor
