Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 12:31 PM AKDT Jul. 26, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has extended the

* Flood Advisory for...
the chena river upstream of nordale Road...

* until 245 PM akdt Friday

* the chena river east of nordale Road remains near bankfull with
minor flooding in some locations. Low lying boat launches and
river access roads in the chena Recreation Area are flooded. 28
mile river access Road is closed. Flat Creek boat launch is
flooded. The portions of the spillway upstream of the Moose Creek
dam area also flooded. The river is now falling from Two Rivers
east and should continue falling slowly over the next several
days. From the Moose Creek dam downstream the chena river will
remain high through Friday as water slowly drains out from behind
the dam.

* In the Steamboat Landing subdivision in North Pole... water levels
are expected to remain at minor flood stage through Friday.
Several inches of water will continue to cross Freeman Road. River
water will inundate some yards in the subdivision... and
groundwater flooding will occur in some basements.

* The U.S. Army corps of engineers Alaska district is currently
operating the Moose Creek dam. Flood control gates at the dam
started regulating the chena river at 6:00 PM on 20 July 2016.
The dam will be regulating the chena river so that flow does not
exceed 12000 cubic feet per second in downtown Fairbanks.
Groundwater will rise to near the ground surface for several
thousand feet west of the Moose Creek dam with minor flooding
possible. River navigation through the Moose Creek dam is
unavailable during operations.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

Special Statement
Issued: 1:42 PM AKDT Jul. 26, 2016 – National Weather Service

... High water on the chena river in Fairbanks through Friday...
... High water remains in the Rosie Creek Subdivision...

Water levels on the chena river in Fairbanks will remain high
through Friday. This high water is causing flooding of some low
lying bike paths and back yards along the river. This is also
causing low clearance at the Cushman, barnette street and peger
Road bridges in Fairbanks, so high profile boats should not boat
through town.

This prolonged period of High River water will cause ground water
to rise and some basements in Fairbanks may see ground water seep
into them.

Downstream on along the Tanana river, water remains over Perkins
drive... Melanie Lane and baurick court off of Rosie Creek Road.
Many yards and driveways in this subdivision have water in them
as well.

Water is expected to recede slowly along the Tanana river over the
the next several days.
