Watches & Warnings

Special Statement
Issued: 3:50 PM CDT Apr. 28, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Late season freeze and some snow possible this weekend...

An unusually strong late season winter storm will move from the
western South Plains into the eastern Texas Panhandle late
Saturday and Sunday. A chance for snow will favor the northern
South Plains and far southwest Texas Panhandle from late Saturday
afternoon through Saturday night. Light snow accumulations,
perhaps near an inch, are possible mainly on grassy areas.
Accumulation forecasts may change depending on the path of the
winter storm and temperatures near ground level.

Temperatures by daybreak Sunday could fall into the upper 20s to
mid 30s for many areas on The Caprock, which could damage or kill
sensitive vegetation. A freeze watch may be issued in later
forecasts if confidence in freezing temperatures improves.

Stay tuned for further information and possible warnings or
advisories today and Saturday.
