Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 4:01 AM EST Jan. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 PM this
afternoon to 7 am EST Tuesday...

* locations... east slopes of the Berkshires in western
Massachusetts... the higher elevations of northern Worcester
County... and extreme northwest Hartford County.

* Hazard types... freezing rain... sleet... and snow.

* Accumulations... snow/sleet accumulation of 1 to 4 inches. A
tenth to a quarter inch of ice accretion is possible across the
high terrain along the east slopes of the Berkshires and
northern Worcester Hills.

* Timing... while some light snow showers... sleet and pockets of
freezing drizzle will be possible through late afternoon.
Heavier precipitation in the form of sleet and/or snow will
develop between 5 and 8 PM this evening and potentially impact
the evening rush hour. Precipitation should transition to over
freezing rain by daybreak Tuesday and continue at times into the
afternoon.

* Impacts... untreated roads and walkways will be slippery
especially this evening into Tuesday morning. There is a low
risk that enough ice accretion may occur to result in isolated
power outages.

* Winds... northeast 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.

... Wind Advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 7 am EST
Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 7 am
EST Tuesday.

* Location... northern Connecticut... Rhode Island as well as
southwest... central and eastern Massachusetts

* winds... northeast 20 to 30 mph with gusts between 40 and 50 mph.

* Timing... winds will increase today with the strongest winds
occurring tonight.

* Impacts... these winds will be capable of Downing and few trees
and possibly result in isolated power outages.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph are
expected... with gusts between 46 to 57 mph. Winds this strong are
capable of Downing small tree limbs and branches, possibly
causing isolated power outages. Driving can also be difficult...
especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

* winds and seas... northeast winds 30 to 40 kt with gusts up to 55
kt. Seas 6 to 11 feet on eastern Long Island Sound.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Storm Warning means sustained winds or frequent gusts of 48 to
63 kt are expected or occurring. Recreational boaters should
remain in port... or take shelter until winds and waves subside.
Commercial vessels should prepare for very strong winds and
dangerous sea conditions... and consider remaining in port or
taking shelter in port until winds and waves subside.
