Special Statement
Issued: 2:28 AM AKDT May. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... An organized storm will bring rains and gusty winds today
through Wednesday...

This wet pattern will continue through mid week over southcentral
Alaska. Expecting multiple waves of rain with the heaviest rain
expected on Wednesday. The heaviest rain will fall over the
northern and eastern parts of the Susitna and Matanuska valleys,
east Anchorage and the hillside, and areas of the Kenai Peninsula.
For the entire event, some locations will receive upwards of one
inch of rain. Expect local rises in rivers and small streams
throughout southcentral. Some of the higher rises will be seen on
rivers in the Susitna Valley. In urban areas there is a potential
for local ponding of water on roads, particularly in areas with
poor drainage.

In addition to the rain, there will be gusty southeasterly winds
across the Anchorage bowl, especially Turnagain Arm and the
hillside. Additionally, gusty southeast winds are expected out of
the Knik River Valley and along the Copper River. Winds will peak
in the aforementioned areas on Wednesday then diminish Wednesday
night.
