Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 2:18 PM PST Dec. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until midnight PST
tonight for the greater Portland and Vancouver Metro area and
surrounding Coast Range and foothill areas... the lower
Columbia... the Interstate 5 corridor in Cowlitz County... and
Willapa Hills...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until midnight PST
tonight.

* Timing... occasional snow will continue this afternoon...
changing to sleet or freezing drizzle this evening. Exception
will be in the southeast Portland Metro... where sleet and
freezing rain are already mixing in this afternoon.

* Snow accumulations... additional snow accumulations will vary...
especially due to significant blowing and drifting of snow. Up
to 2 additional inches are expected... yielding storm totals of
1 to 4 inches.

* Ice accumulations... around one tenth of an inch on average...
though southeastern portions of the Portland Metro may approach
one quarter inch of ice.

* Wind... strong east winds locally gusting 40 to 50 mph across
the eastern Portland and Vancouver Metro area will lead to
areas of blowing snow... as well as cold wind chills.

* Impacts... travel will be difficult... especially from this
afternoon through evening. Some power outages are likely
across the area due to the snow and ice accumulation
combined with the wind.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow...
sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are
likely. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
