Watches & Warnings

Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 5:22 AM PST Dec. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Coast Range of
northwest Oregon... the lower Columbia of Oregon and I-5 corridor
in Cowlitz County... the greater Portland-Vancouver Metro
area... the north Oregon and South Washington Cascade
foothills... and the Willapa Hills from 8 am this morning to
midnight PST tonight...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow and freezing rain remains in
effect from 8 am this morning to midnight PST tonight.

* Timing... snow will begin mid to late morning continuing through
much of the day for inland areas. The Coast Range will start to
change to freezing rain in the early afternoon and in the inland
areas 4 to 6 PM. Freezing rain will then continue inland until
midnight... especially near The Gorge.

* Snow accumulations... generally 2 to 4 inches. However... areas
near The Gorge... the Coast Range... and western Tualatin
valley could stay snow long enough for accumulations to
reach 4 to 7 inches.

* Ice accumulations... one tenth to one quarter inch... likely
heaviest near The Gorge.

* Wind... strong east winds locally gusting 40 to 50 mph across
the eastern Portland and Vancouver Metro area will lead to
areas of blowing snow... as well as cold wind chills.

* Impacts... travel will be difficult... especially from this
afternoon through evening. Some power outages are likely across
the area due to the snow and ice accumulation combined with the
wind.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow...
sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
