Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Warning
Issued: 8:14 PM HST Aug. 23, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
the island of Oahu in Honolulu County

* until 1115 PM HST

* at 808 PM HST... radar indicated heavy rain over the ko olau
mountain range. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per
hour... and the Waiahole stream has just risen above flood stage.
When this stream rises above flood stage, the Kamehameha Highway
frequently closes at Waiahole valley Road due to high water. Other
rivers remain elevated as well, and additional flash flooding is
likely until the heavy rain subsides.

* Locations in the warning include but are not limited to...
Maunawili... Kailua... Waikane... Hauula... Kaneohe... Waiahole...
Kahaluu... Kaneohe marine base... Ahuimanu... Kahuku...
Punaluu and Kaaawa.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding in imminent or occurring in
streams... roads... and low lying areas. Move to higher ground now.

Do not cross fast flowing water in your vehicle... or on foot. Turn
around... Don/T drown.

This warning may need to be extended beyond 1115 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

This Flash Flood Warning replaces the previously issued Flood
Advisory that was in effect for portions of the island of Oahu in
Honolulu County.

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 7:17 PM HST Aug. 23, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
the island of Oahu in Honolulu County

* until 1015 PM HST

* at 713 PM HST... radar indicated heavy rain over the ko olau
mountain range. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per
hour. Minor flooding of poor drainage areas can be expected. In
addition... stream levels are on the rise and if the heavy rains
persist... a Flash Flood Warning may eventually be needed.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
Maunawili... Kailua... Waikane... Hauula... Kaneohe... Waiahole...
Kahaluu... Kaneohe marine base... Ahuimanu... Kahuku...
Punaluu and Kaaawa.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle... or on
foot. Turn around... don't drown.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 1015 PM HST if heavy
rain persists.
