Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 4:03 AM HST Dec. 5, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* flood advisory for...
the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* until 700 am HST

* at 400 am HST... radar indicated heavy rain along and south of a
line from Kailua-Kona to Hilo... with rain falling at a rate of 1
to 2 inches per hour. Minor flooding of low lying and poor
drainage areas can be expected.

* Locations in the advisory include the entire Big Island of Hawaii.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle... or on
foot. Turn around... don't drown.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 700 am HST if heavy rain
persists.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect until 6 PM HST this evening.

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through this afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for Maui and The Big Island.

* Through this afternoon

* the combination of deep tropical moisture and an unstable
airmass will allow for the potential for heavy showers and
thunderstorms for Maui and The Big Island.

* Heavier downpours and thunderstorms could cause streams to
quickly overflow their banks... leading to flash flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued. Campers and hikers should
consider postponing their Outing until the weather is better.
High streams... as well as streams overflowing their banks... could
make conditions very dangerous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is very dangerous.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
