Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 4:50 PM HST Aug. 24, 2016 – National Weather Service

... The Flood Advisory remains in effect until 530 PM HST for the
island of Hawaii in Hawaii County...

At 448 PM HST... radar indicated a thunderstorm dropping very heavy
rain over the lower leeward slopes of The Big Island between
Honaunau and Kailua-Kona town. Rainfall rates between 2 and 3 inches
per hour will likely lead to nuisance flooding along Mamalahoa
Highway.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
Captain Cook... Honaunau... Kahaluu-Keauhou and Kealakekua.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle... or on
foot. Turn around... don't drown.
