Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 2:12 PM HST Dec. 4, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
the island of Oahu in Honolulu County

* until 500 PM HST

* at 206 PM HST... radar indicated that heavy rain has moved onshore
over east Oahu. The rain gage in Hawaii Kai reported rain rates of
about 1 to 2 inches per hour. More rain is expected to move over
Oahu from the south over the next several hours.

* This advisory includes the entire island of Oahu.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle... or on
foot. Turn around... don't drown.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 500 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for Honolulu County through
today and may be extended.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* all Hawaiian islands.

* Through this afternoon.

* The combination of deep tropical moisture and an unstable
airmass will allow for the potential for heavy showers and
thunderstorms across the state.

* Heavier downpours and thunderstorms could cause streams to
quickly overflow their banks... leading to flash flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is very dangerous.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued. Campers and hikers should
consider postponing their Outing until the weather is better.
High streams... as well as streams overflowing their banks... could
make conditions very dangerous.
