Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 6:05 PM PDT Jul. 25, 2017 – National Weather Service

... The small stream flood advisory remains in effect until 715 PM PDT
for northwestern Siskiyou County...

At 602 PM PDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from earlier
thunderstorms has moved away, but flooding of small streams is still
possible in the advisory area. Radar estimates one to two inches of
rain has fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Scott Bar.

* This includes...
   Highway 96 in California between mile markers 70 and 74.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 2:30 PM PDT Jul. 25, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning now in effect until 11 PM PDT Wednesday for
   abundant lightning on dry fuels for fire weather zones 284 and
   285...

* impacts: lightning and high fire danger will likely result in
new fire starts. Gusty thunderstorm winds could contribute to fire
spread. Despite rainfall, initial attack resources could be
overwhelmed and holdover fires are possible.

* Affected area:
in northern CA... fire weather zones 284 and 285.

* Counties affected:
in northern CA... Modoc... northeast Siskiyou.

* Thunderstorms: scattered thunderstorms with lightning activity
level of 3. Lightning activity level of 4 is possible in the
higher terrain areas. Wetting rains will occur with some storms
but there will be strikes outside of wetting rains.

* Timing: scattered thunderstorms will persist through Wednesday
evening... peaking in strength and coverage during the afternoons
and evenings.

* View the hazard area in detail at

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are
either occurring now, or will shortly. Scattered thunderstorms
combined with dry fuels create conditions where many fire starts
may occur in a short period of time.
