The National Weather Service in Hanford CA has issued a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
central Mariposa County in central California...
northeastern Madera County in central California...
north central Tulare County in central California...
northeastern Fresno County in central California...

* until 600 PM PST

* at 1207 PM PST, local law enforcement reported several rock and
small mud slides over the foothills near Mariposa, Squaw Valley,
Shaver Lake and Oakhurst. Moderate to locally heavy rain continues
to fall over these locations and generally 1 to 2 inches of rain
has fallen on very saturated soils in the foothills and lower
Sierra slopes.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Yosemite South Entrance, Oakhurst, Yosemite Valley, Bootjack,
Batterson, Bass Lake, Wishon dam, Fish Camp, Huntington Lake,
Grant Grove, Squaw Valley and Coarsegold.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of central California, including the following areas,
east central San Joaquin Valley, Mariposa, Madera, Fresno, and
Tulare County foothills, Sierra Nevada from Tulare County north
to Yosemite National Park below 7000 feet, and west central San
Joaquin Valley.

* Through Tuesday morning

* an incoming strong storm system will bring a period of excessive
rainfall to central California. The heaviest rainfall will occur
this morning through this afternoon.

* The combination of already wet soils and moderate to heavy
rain could lead to excessive runoff. Flooding of small
streams, low water crossings and poor drainage areas will be
possible. Mud and rock slides in areas of higher terrain are
also possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

* until 430 am PST Wednesday

* above normal water releases from Friant dam will bring a threat of
minor flooding along and adjacent to the San Joaquin River
downstream to Mendota.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

* winds... southerly winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45
mph.

* Timing... through Tuesday morning.

* Impacts... gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree
limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
Uprooted trees are also more likely with very wet soils from
recent rains.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 45 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
