Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 1:48 PM PST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 10 PM this evening
to 10 am PST Monday...

* locations... southern Sierra Nevada above 4000 feet.

* Hazard types... heavy snow and blowing snow.

* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 2 to 4 feet.

* Winds... southwest 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph.

* Timing... snow is expected to start tonight near midnight with
the heaviest snowfall occurring Sunday morning through Sunday
evening. Snow levels will start out near 4000 feet rising during
the day Sunday to around 6000 feet. Snow level then lowering Sunday
night to near 3000 feet by Monday morning.

* Impacts... the heavy snow will make many roads impassable and
may produce widespread power outages due to the weight of the
snow on tree limbs and power lines. Strong winds will lead to
blowing snow... reduced visibility... and additional power
outages.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
