High Surf Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 2:30 PM PST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 6 am PST Sunday...
... Coastal Flood Advisory is cancelled...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has cancelled
the coastal Flood Advisory.

* Surf... on west facing beaches surf of 8 to 12 feet today will
lower to 5 to 9 feet by Sunday. Surf should stay above advisory
levels into Tuesday.

* Impacts... large waves and strong rip currents will increase the
risk of ocean drowning. Breaking waves can cause injury, wash
people off beaches or rocks and capsize small boats nearshore.
Moderate beach erosion is expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf and rip currents will
make swimming and rock jetties dangerous.

Remember... swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current
remain calm. Don't fight the current. Swim in a direction
following the shoreline. When out of the current, swim back to
shore. If tired, float or tread water until out of the rip
current. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for
help.

afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of southwest California...
including the following areas... Santa Barbara County mountains
and Santa Barbara County South Coast.

* From Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon

* periods of intense rain with rainfall rates as high as 1 to 1.5
inches per hour could generate flash flooding and or mud and
debris flows... especially in and around recent burn scars.

* Landslides and Rockslides are very common during intense rain
events and could lead to Road closures.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Flash flooding and debris flows will be a particular threat in

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

Southern California residents, in or below the recently burned
areas are urged to take the steps necessary to protect their
property. Persons in the watch area should remain alert and
follow directions of emergency preparedness officials.

... Small Craft Advisory now in effect until 6 am PST Sunday...
... Gale Warning in effect from 6 am to 2 PM PST Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
Gale Warning... which is in effect from 6 am to 2 PM PST Sunday.
