Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory
Issued: 11:34 AM PST Jan. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory now in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to
2 am PST Sunday...

* surf... on west facing beaches surf of 4 to 7 feet today will
build to 8 to 12 feet by late Friday and Saturday. The surf will
slowly diminish Sunday through Tuesday... but remain above high
surf thresholds.

* Impacts... large waves and strong rip currents will increase
the risk of ocean drowning. Breaking waves can cause injury...
wash people off beaches or rocks... and capsize small boats
nearshore.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf and rip currents will
make swimming and rock jetties dangerous.

Remember... swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current
remain calm. Don't fight the current. Swim in a direction
following the shoreline. When out of the current... swim back to
shore. If tired... float or tread water until out of the rip
current. If unable to escape... face the shore and call or wave
for help.

Small Craft Advisory, Gale Warning
Issued: 8:09 AM PST Jan. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 10 am PST
Friday...
... Gale Warning remains in effect from 10 am to 9 PM PST Friday...

* winds... southwest to west winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts to 35 kt
are expected when winds are strongest.

* Seas... combined seas of 15 to 18 feet with periods around 15
seconds are expected when waves are largest.

See the coastal waters forecast (cwflox) for more details.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

A Small Craft Advisory means that hazardous sea conditions will
exist for small craft. Inexperienced mariners... especially those
operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these
conditions.
