Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 11:17 AM PST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday
afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for Ventura County.

* From Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon

* periods of intense rain with rainfall rates as high as 1 to 1.5
inches per hour could generate flash flooding and or mud and
debris flows... especially in and around recent burn scars.

* Landslides and Rockslides are very common during intense rain
events and could lead to Road closures.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Flash flooding and debris flows will be a particular threat in
and below the recently burned areas.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

Southern California residents, in or below the recently burned
areas are urged to take the steps necessary to protect their
property. Persons in the watch area should remain alert and
follow directions of emergency preparedness officials.

Issued: 8:52 PM PST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 6 am PST Sunday...
... Gale Warning remains in effect from 6 am to 2 PM PST Sunday...

* winds... south to southeast winds will increase to 20 to 30 kt
with gusts to 40 kt will develop early sunbday morning and
continue through early Sunday afternoon.

* Seas... combined seas of 9 to 14 feet with periods around 16
seconds are expected when waves are largest.

See the coastal waters forecast (cwflox) for more details.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

A Small Craft Advisory means that hazardous sea conditions will
exist for small craft. Inexperienced mariners... especially those
operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these
conditions.
