Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 3:27 AM PST Jan. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... The Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory remains in effect until
430 am PST for Ventura County...

At 319 am PST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges continued to
indicate moderate to locally heavy rain occurring across Ventura
County. The heaviest rainfall was occurring across the coastal and
western portions of the County with up to a half inch per hour
rainfall rates recorded. Expect rainfall rates of one quarter to
around a half inch per hour to continue to spread across the eastern
half of Ventura County. Minor mud and debris flows may occur in the
vicinity of the solimar and Springs burn areas. Otherwise, Urban and
Small Stream flooding will occur in the advisory area through early
this morning. Driving conditions could become dangerous across
canyons with large boulders and debris falling from canyon walls
this morning.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Oxnard... Thousand Oaks... Simi Valley... Ventura... Camarillo...
Fillmore... Ojai... Santa Paula... Carpinteria... Rose Valley...
la conchita... Point Mugu... Point Mugu State Park... Newbury Park...
Point Dume... Moorpark... and Port Hueneme.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

Small Craft Advisory, Gale Warning
Issued: 3:09 AM PST Jan. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Small Craft Advisory now in effect until 10 am PST Friday...
... Gale Warning in effect from 10 am to 9 PM PST Friday...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
Gale Warning... which is in effect from 10 am to 9 PM PST Friday.
The gale watch is no longer in effect.

* Winds... southwest to west winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts to 35 kt
are expected when winds are strongest.

* Seas... combined seas of 15 to 18 feet with periods around 15
seconds are expected when waves are largest.

See the coastal waters forecast (cwflox) for more details.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

A Small Craft Advisory means that hazardous sea conditions will
exist for small craft. Inexperienced mariners... especially those
operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these
conditions.
