High Wind Watch
Issued: 8:12 PM PDT Mar. 28, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High wind watch in effect from Thursday afternoon through late
Thursday night...

The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a high wind
watch, which is in effect from Thursday afternoon through late
Thursday night.

* Winds... westerly 30 to 45 mph with areas of 55 to 65 mph gusts
near the desert slopes and foothills.

* Timing... winds increasing Thursday morning and becoming strong
and gusty in the afternoon. Strongest winds are expected
Thursday evening.

* Location... the higher mountains and deserts. Strongest on the
desert slopes and near the desert foothills.

* Visibility... locally reduced in areas of blowing dust and sand.

* Impacts... hazardous travel conditions at times due to reduced
visibility in blowing sand and dust, debris on roadways, and
sudden, strong cross-winds. Minor structural and tree damage
possible.

* Outlook... winds turning northerly Thursday night and remaining
gusty in some areas, but decreasing on Friday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts
of 58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.
