Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 7:48 PM PDT Mar. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... The flood advisory for a dam release remains in effect until 330
PM PDT Thursday for southern Lyon County...

* ongoing releases from Bridgeport Reservoir and Topaz Lake have
resulted in increased flows on both the east and west Walker
rivers. These increased releases are a precautionary measure
intended to create storage space in the reservoirs to handle
increased runoff from snowmelt later this Spring. Releases were
increased a little more Tuesday evening from Topaz.

* The increased flow below Bridgeport Reservoir is likely to result
in minor flooding along east Walker Road from the strosnider ditch
to near the confluence with the west Walker.

* Farther downstream, combined flows from the east and west Walker
will likely result in minor flooding below Yerington where Miller
Lane crosses the river. Further increased flows could result in
the Walker River near Mason reaching flood stage later this week.

* Additional minor flooding is possible in mainly rural areas of
south central Lyon County, but impacts are expected to be minimal
unless flows are increased beyond the current levels. Check with
local officials for possible Road closures or restrictions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
