Watches & Warnings

Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 3:09 PM PST Feb. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 am PST
Wednesday...

* timing: bands of moderate to heavy snow will continue through
this evening... with a rain and snow mix possible during lighter
precipitation periods near valley floors. Wet roads may ice up
by sunset with snow covered roads for the evening commute and
overnight.

* Snow accumulations: 2 to 5 inches on the valley floors with 4
to 9 inches above 5000 feet, with highest amounts north of
Highway 50. Locally up to a foot or more in persistent heavy
bands.

* Winds: south to southwest 5 to 15 with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Snow levels: fluctuating near valley floors. A mix of rain and
snow is possible at and near Lower Valley floors in areas of
lighter precipitation.

* Impacts: the bands of heavy snow could produce rapid drops in
visibility with snowfall rates up to 2 to 3 inches per hour at
times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Travel delays are likely across the Sierra front north of Highway
50, especially above 5000 feet. Roads are expected to become
slick, especially after sunset. Leave extra space between vehicles
since it takes longer to stop on slick roadways.
