Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 3:55 PM PDT Apr. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... The flood advisory for a dam floodgate release remains in effect
until 1000 am PDT Wednesday for west central Churchill County...

Update Monday afternoon 4/24: Reservoir releases have been increased
slightly by the Truckee-Carson irrigation district in coordination
with local officials. This increase in flow has resulted in several
areas along the Carson River reaching bank full. Minor flooding of
some landscaped areas has been reported, but no flooding of homes
or infrastructure is occurring.

Bafford Lane was breached and the bridge closed last week to allow
water to flow around the bridge. The bridge may be closed for the
next 4 to 6 months based on information from law enforcement
officials.

These high flows will continue for an indefinite time as the
irrigation district draws down Lahontan Reservoir in anticipation of
higher snowmelt flows later this Spring. Officials are constantly
monitoring the high flows and channel conditions. Additional work is
likely to improve channel capacity to minimize any flooding
concerns.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Any unanticipated increase in flows or changes to the river channel
could lead to additional flooding in areas immediately adjacent to
the river.

The river is powerful, fast and cold. Please stay clear for safety.

... Wind Advisory in effect from 1 PM to 8 PM PDT Wednesday...

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Wind Advisory,
which is in effect from 1 PM to 8 PM PDT Wednesday.

* Timing: winds will begin increasing Wednesday morning before
becoming strong for the afternoon and evening. Winds will
decrease behind a front Wednesday evening and overnight.

* Winds: west to northwest 25 to 40 mph with gusts to 55 mph.

* Waves on pyramid lake: increasing to 2 to 5 feet for Wednesday
afternoon... highest for eastern and southeastern shores.

* Impacts: strong cross winds will cause hazardous driving
conditions, especially for high profile vehicles. Travel
restrictions or Road closures are possible, especially for
Highway 95 south of Schurz.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio

these items away. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by
making sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights
with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power
outage.
