Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 2:01 PM MDT Jul. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
Coconino County in north central Arizona...

* until 500 PM MST

* at 159 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in
the advisory area. Up to one to two inches of rain has already
fallen in the past hour.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Flagstaff, Flagstaff mall, Walnut Canyon National Monument,
downtown Flagstaff, kachina Village, Walnut Canyon visitors center,
Lower Lake Mary and Canyon Vista campground.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper
than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough
to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded roads, make
the smart choice: turn around, don't drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, and ponding of water in urban areas, highways,
streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage areas and low
lying spots.

precipitation coverage. Storm motion should be from the east-
southeast to west northwest.

* Areas of particular concern are the Grand Canyon, Antelope
Canyon, Havasu Canyon.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that developing conditions may lead to
flash flooding within the watch area. People... especially those
located along area creeks... rivers or other flash flood prone
areas... should continue to monitor later forecasts and be
prepared to take immediate action should flash flood warnings be
issued.
