Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 7:41 PM MST Dec. 9, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 am MST Sunday...

* affected area... the Wasatch and western Uinta Mountains of
northern Utah.

* Snow accumulations... additional accumulations of 12 to 20
inches expected.

* Timing... snow will redevelop overnight near the Idaho border...
before spreading south and becoming heavy at times again
Saturday morning through Saturday night. Snow is expected to
taper rapidly Sunday morning.

* Winds... westerly winds gusting in excess of 50 mph at times
along the ridgelines into Sunday morning. The highest ridgelines
will see wind gusts in excess of 80 mph.

* Impacts... winter driving conditions can be expected across all
mountain routes periodically into Sunday morning... especially
Saturday and Saturday night. This includes interstates 80 and
84. Blowing and drifting snow may reduce visibilities in
exposed areas periodically through Saturday... especially on
US 89 over Logan Summit.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means a mixture of heavy snow and strong
winds are expected or occurring. Driving conditions may be
hazardous. Use caution. Be prepared for sudden restrictions in
visibility due to blowing snow. Keep a winter storm survival kit
in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The following message is transmitted at the request of the
Forest service Utah avalanche center.

The Forest service Utah avalanche center in Salt Lake City has
issued a backcountry avalanche warning.

* Timing... in effect through 600 am Saturday.

* Affected area... the mountains of northern Utah including the
Wasatch Range... Bear River Range... and the western Uinta
Mountains.

* Avalanche danger... the avalanche danger will become high today
and remain elevated through the weekend.

* Reason/impacts... dense heavy snow combined with strong winds
will create widespread areas of unstable snow at the mid and
upper elevations. Both human triggered and natural avalanches
are certain. Stay off of and out from under slopes steeper the
30 degrees.

This warning does not apply to ski areas where avalanche hazard
