Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 10:51 PM MDT Jun. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... A Flood Warning for snowmelt remains in effect until 945 am MDT
Thursday for Central Park County...

At 1045 PM, the gauge on the South Fork of the Shoshone river near
valley was at 9.4 feet, which is above flood stage of 9.0 feet. The
river will crest between 9.5 and 9.6 feet again early Thursday
morning after another 1.5 inches of water melted from the high
elevation snowpack on Wednesday.

Flooding along the South Fork of the Shoshone river could impact the
ishawooa bridge which was severely affected from flooding earlier
this month. Otherwise, the main impacts will be to low- land
flooding nearest the river. The flooding will continue into Thursday
morning, and potentially Friday morning, before cooler weather slows
the high elevation snow melt.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.
