... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 am MDT
Sunday above 9500 feet...

* locations include... Silverton, Rico, Lizard Head Pass, Molas
Pass, and Red Mountain Pass.

* Timing... snow will continue heavy at times over much of the San
Juan Mountains through 4 am. Snow is expected to decrease toward
sunrise. However it will likely linger over the Uncompahgre
Plateau and gorge on the northwest side of the san Juan's
through mid morning Sunday.

* Snow accumulation... 4 to 8 inches above 9500 feet with locally
higher amounts. 1 to 4 inches from 8000 to 9500 feet. Snowfall
rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible from heaviest
showers.

* Snow level... lowering to near 8000 feet by 3 am and to near
6500 feet at 6 am Sunday morning.

* Winds... southwest 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph
becoming west overnight.

* Visibility... lowering to less than 1 mile during periods of
blowing snow and heaviest snow showers.

* Impacts... high elevation roadways will become slick and
snowpacked, especially US-550 over Molas Pass and Red Mountain
Pass as well as Highway 145 over Lizard Head Pass. In addition,
snow and areas of blowing snow will reduce visibility.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow and/or
blowing snow will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while
driving.
