A tropical disturbance pushing toward the Bahamas, is expected to develop into a tropical depression or storm, and will likely target Florida and the Gulf Coast this weekend into next week.

Right now, the disturbance remains a broad area of low pressure pushing through the Dominican Republic and Haiti, headed toward the southeast Bahamas. Rainfall totals over 3 inches (with locally higher amounts) are expected in HispaƱiola, particularly over elevated terrain.

southwestern Eddy County in southeastern New Mexico...
northwestern Culberson County in southwestern Texas...

* until 645 PM CDT/545 PM MDT/

* at 341 PM CDT/241 PM MDT/... Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to one inch of rain
has already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the
warned area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around... don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Arroyos... streams... and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes... even from distant rainfall.

* until 545 PM CDT

* at 249 PM CDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain over southwestern
Culberson due to a cluster of thunderstorms. This may cause minor flooding
in the advisory area... persons traveling on I-20 through this region
should use caution.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Van Horn... plateau... Boracho and Culberson County Airport.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around... don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

miles south of Balmorhea Lake... or 21 miles northeast of Fort
Davis... moving northeast at 20 mph.

Nickel size hail and wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph will be possible with
this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Balmorhea Lake and Saragosa.

This includes Interstate 10 between mile markers 211 and 229.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm... and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
