Special Statement
Issued: 7:31 AM CDT Jul. 25, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Elevated heat index values across eastern portions of deep
south Texas this afternoon through early this evening...

An upper level ridge of high pressure across the southwest United
States and northern Mexico will continue to produce hot
temperatures across deep south Texas today. The combination of
above normal temperatures and a moist atmosphere will produce
heat index values up to 110 degrees during the afternoon hours
into early evening hours across the eastern portions of deep
south Texas. Heat index values may briefly exceed 110 degrees in
isolated locations... but those occurrences will be limited in
areal coverage and will not last more than one or two hours.

Residents planning outdoor activities should drink plenty of
water... wear lightweight... light colored... and loose fitting
clothing... and take frequent breaks from the heat in the shade or
in air conditioned buildings.

Never leave Young children or pets unattended in vehicles. In hot
weather... car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter
of minutes. If you observe children or pets left alone in
cars... be sure to notify law enforcement immediately.
