Watches & Warnings

Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 7:11 PM CDT Jun. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flood advisory remains in effect until 4 PM CDT
Friday...
... High rip current risk has expired...

* coastal flooding... primarily across Gulf facing beaches and a
few locations along the bays and waterways.

* Timing... tidal overflow will continue tonight... with coastal
flooding expected to be the worst around high tide Friday
morning. Water levels will slowly improve Friday after high
tide... but water levels will remain elevated at least into the
afternoon hours. On Friday... high tide at Port Aransas is at 524
am CDT... with high tide at Port O'Connor at 1032 am CDT. The rip
current threat has decreased from high to moderate this evening
due to a strengthening south wind and decreasing long period
swells.

* Impacts... at 2 to 2.5 feet above mean sea level... wave run up
well into the dunes will occur resulting in limited to
impossible beach driving conditions. Some beach and access roads
are already closed... and more will likely be closed. For the
bays and waterways... at around 2 feet above mean sea level...
North Beach in Corpus Christi Bay begins to flood with water
well into some picnic areas on the beach. Water crosses over
portions of Laguna shores drive in Flour Bluff. In addition... a
moderate rip current risk can potentially be life threatening
along Gulf facing beaches of the middle Texas coast.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
