Special Statement
Issued: 2:32 PM CDT Jul. 24, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Heat indices between 105 and 110 degrees this afternoon...

A combination of hot temperatures and increased moisture will
result in elevated heat indices this afternoon. Values of 105 to
108 are expected along and east of I-35... as well as across the
Rio Grande plains. A few spots near the coastal plains will flirt
with heat advisory criteria with values of 108 to 110 for an hour
or two during the middle of this afternoon.

Residents should remain alert for signs of heat exhaustion. Take
extra precautions if conducting strenuous activities outdoors...
such as scheduling frequent breaks indoors or in the shade and
drinking plenty of water.

Also... be sure to check on persons with health problems... children
and the elderly... as they are the most susceptible to heat
exhaustion and heat stroke. Never leave Young children or pets in
an enclosed vehicle... even for a short time... as temperatures can
rise to life threatening levels in a matter of minutes.
