Watches & Warnings

Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 3:55 AM CDT Jul. 23, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this
evening...

* temperature... temperatures will climb into the lower and mid
90ss during the afternoon today. This coupled with moisture will
create heat index values of 100 to 108 degrees.

* Impacts... the longevity of the heat event will result in a
potentially dangerous situation for sensitive groups...
including children... the elderly... or those with medical
conditions. Leaving a child or pet in an enclosed vehicle can
be deadly... even for a short period of time. Heat deaths are
preventable. Check on people who live in buildings without air
conditioning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
fluids... stay in an air-conditioned room... stay out of the
sun... and check up on relatives and neighbors.
