Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 3:23 PM CST Feb. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 6 PM Thursday to midnight
CST Friday night...

The National Weather Service in Omaha/valley has issued a Winter
Storm Warning for heavy snow and blowing snow, which is in effect
from 6 PM Thursday to midnight CST Friday night. The Winter Storm
Watch is no longer in effect.

* Timing... rain, or a rain and snow mix on Thursday will change to
all snow Thursday evening. Snow, occasionally heavy, will continue
Thursday night and through the day on Friday, ending on Friday
evening.

* Snow accumulations... snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are
expected with locally higher amounts in isolated locations.

* Winds... northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph on Thursday evening will
become north, and then northwest during the day on Friday
increasing to 20 to 30 mph with gusts over 35 mph. This will
create considerable blowing and drifting with near blizzard
conditions possible at times on Friday and Friday evening.

* Impacts... the combination of the heavy snowfall, gusty winds
creating blowing and drifting as well as reducing visibilities
will make travel very hazardous to nearly impossible during the
storm. The winds combined with the wet and heavy nature of the
snow may also create the risk of sporadic power outages.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and
water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
