Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 12:45 PM CDT Apr. 30, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of central Illinois, including the following area,
Sangamon.

* Through Monday evening

* periods of heavy rainfall are expected through this evening.
Around another 1 inch of rain is expected by midnight tonight,
with locally 1 to 2 inch amounts from stronger thunderstorms.
The heavy rain threat will diminish as a cold front moves
through during mid evening, but runoff from heavy rains will
likely continue tonight and into Monday. In addition, water is
being released from Spaulding dam at Lake Springfield. Because
of this, there is substantial flow of water in Sugar Creek
downstream of the dam.

* In addition to potential flooding of streets and roads in
flood prone areas, area rivers and streams are also likely to
experience flooding. This would persist for several days after
the rain ends.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation,
especially if driving. Never drive across a flooded roadway. You
should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
