Watches & Warnings

Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 3:31 AM CDT Jul. 23, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT
Sunday...

* temperatures... highs around 90 are expected from this
afternoon with highs in the lower to middle 90s Saturday and
Sunday. Little relief is expected at night... with lows only in
the mid to upper 70s tonight and Saturday night.

* Heat Index... Peak afternoon heat index values of 105 to 110
degrees today and Sunday afternoon... with locally higher values
of 110 to 115 degrees.

* Impacts... there is a high risk of heat related illnesses for
people with prolonged outdoor exposure... or without access to
air conditioning. The elderly... small children... and pets are
especially susceptible to the heat.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
water... stay in an air conditioned room... stay out of the sun...
and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets
should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances. This is especially true during hot weather when
car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of
minutes.
