Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 12:20 PM CDT Jul. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Rock Island County in northwestern Illinois...
Putnam County in north central Illinois...
Whiteside County in northwestern Illinois...
Henry County in northwestern Illinois...
Bureau County in north central Illinois...
Scott County in east central Iowa...
eastern Muscatine County in east central Iowa...

* until 1215 am CDT Sunday

* at 1212 PM CDT, emergency management and law enforcement reported
ongoing areal flooding of creeks and streams due to heavy rain
over the past two days. Rainfall reports of 2 to 4 inches were
common across the warned area, with some locations receiving
around 5 inches. The runoff from this excessive rainfall has led
to areal flooding and dangerous conditions due to fast moving
water near creeks and streams. The threat for additional heavy
rain is over, but flooding impacts will linger into this evening
and tonight.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, Bettendorf, Muscatine, East Moline,
Sterling, Kewanee, Rock Falls, Princeton, Morrison, Cambridge,
Durant, Hennepin, Silvis, Geneseo, Eldridge, Spring Valley, Milan
and Colona.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

Heat Advisory
Issued: 11:19 AM CDT Jul. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening...

* heat index values... peaking around 100 degrees due to
temperatures near 90 degrees and dewpoints in the mid 70s.

* Timing... through this evening.

* Impacts... increased risk for heat exhaustion or heat stroke
for people spending time outside or living without air
conditioning. Children and the elderly are most susceptible.
Also, parked vehicles will become dangerously hot within
minutes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures and high
humidity is expected. This combination will lead to possible
heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-
conditioned room, stay out of the sun... and check on relatives
and neighbors, especially the elderly.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
