Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 4:08 AM CDT Jul. 30, 2016 – National Weather Service

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 200 PM CDT Saturday for
southern dupage... northeastern De Kalb... north central will... central
Kane and south central Cook counties...

At 400 am CDT... runoff from the 2 to 4 inches of rain which fell on
Friday continues to result in flooding with numerous roads reported
blocked by flood waters. DuPage County emergency management reports
significant impacts across southern DuPage County from 75th street
south. Although additional heavy rainfall is not expected early this
morning... scattered thunderstorms are once again possible across the
warned area by mid day today and this additional rainfall could
cause renewed rises in flood waters.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Aurora... Naperville... Bolingbrook... Orland Park... Wheaton...
Downers Grove... Lombard... Romeoville... St. Charles... Glen Ellyn...
West Chicago... Batavia... Westmont... Homer Glen... Lisle... Geneva...
Sycamore... Hinsdale... Lemont and La Grange.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.
