Lake Wind Advisory
Issued: 2:30 PM MDT Oct. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Lake Wind Advisory in effect from 6 am to 8 PM MDT Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Missoula has issued a lake Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 6 am to 8 PM MDT Sunday.

* Impacts/timing: gusty winds will develop late tonight, peaking
between 11am and 2pm Sunday. Increased chop on Flathead Lake
will cause difficult conditions for small water craft.

* Winds: south winds around 15 mph in the morning becoming
southwesterly 15 to 25 mph with gusts to near 40 mph possible by
mid day.

* Wave heights: 1 to 3 feet, locally up to 4 feet on the northeast
side of the lake.

* Locations impacted include: Flathead Lake, Flathead Valley,
Mission Valley, and Polson

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A lake Wind Advisory indicates that winds will cause rough chop
on area lakes. Small boats will be especially prone to capsizing.

Note... the experimental wave height forecasts are representative
of the mid lake waters and downwind shores. Wave heights may be
significantly less on upwind shores.
