Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 10:21 PM MST Feb. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Glasgow has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
northeastern Phillips County in northeastern Montana...
northwestern Valley County in northeastern Montana...

* until 1015 PM MST Wednesday

* at 1019 PM MST, snow melt continues to keep the Frenchman creek
above flood stage through Wednesday evening.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Frenchman Reservoir.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from snow melt will cause flooding of small creeks
and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find
an alternate Route.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 11:13 AM MST Feb. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday afternoon...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northeast Montana, including the following areas,
central and southern valley, Dawson, Richland, and Sheridan.

* Through Wednesday afternoon

* ice is breaking up and flowing along many of the rivers and
streams across the region. This includes the Yellowstone river
in the Glendive area. A new ice jam could form and bring
quickly rising water levels.

* An ice jam on the milk river in the Glasgow area continues to
contribute to High River levels. Levels continue to slowly rise
but are not expected to reach flood stage yet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
