... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon MST today...

* impacts... snow... heavy at times... along with areas of blowing
snow will create poor visibilities and pose a danger for
outdoor recreation.

* Timing... through this morning.

* Additional snow accumulation... 3 to 5 inches... greatest on west
facing slopes including the mountains around Cooke City.

* Winds... westerly gusts to 40 mph on exposed slopes causing
blowing and drifting snow.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means a significant amount of snow is
expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will
make travel very hazardous or impossible.

Issued: 5:14 AM MST Dec. 5, 2016 – National Weather Service

The following message is transmitted at the request of the
Gallatin National Forest avalanche center.

The Gallatin National Forest avalanche center is issuing a
backcountry avalanche warning for the mountains near Cooke City,
the Lionhead area near West Yellowstone, southern Madison Range,
and southern Gallatin Range. Heavy snow has added weight to a
weak and unstable snowpack. The avalanche danger is rated high on
all slopes. Natural and human triggered avalanches are likely
today. Avalanche terrain and avalanche runout zones should be
avoided.

You are urged to contact the Gallatin National Forest avalanche
center for more detailed information.
