Watches & Warnings

Special Statement, Beach Hazard Statement
Issued: 4:06 AM CDT Aug. 24, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Thunderstorms with heavy rain in eastern Wisconsin...

At 400 am CDT... radar indicated a large area of showers and
thunderstorms extending from northeast to southwest Wisconsin. The
strongest storms extended from near Sturgeon Bay... to Green
Bay... to Waupaca. Movement was northeast at 35 mph. Rainfalls of
up to 1.5 inches have occurred with the strongest storms.

Although the strongest storms will gradually weaken and shift off
to the northeast... periods of rain will linger in their wake. The
additional rainfall will continue to cause some ponding of water
in low spots on roadways and parking lots. Do not drive your
vehicle into standing water.

Lightning strikes could also lead to some power outages...
especially over the Door Peninsula.

... Beach hazards statement remains in effect through this
evening...

* high wave action... strong currents and dangerous swimming
conditions expected.

* Locations...

beaches of Door County including Rock Island state beach...
Baileys Harbor beaches... and Whitefish Dunes Beach.

Beaches of Kewaunee County including Cresent Beach and city of
Kewaunee beach.

Beaches of Manitowoc County including Point Beach... neshotah
beach... and red arrow beach.

* Strong south winds will continue to bring waves of 3 to 7 feet
through mid-evening to the Lake Michigan shore of northeast
Wisconsin... resulting in dangerous swimming conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

High wave action makes swimming difficult as waves on the Great
Lakes occur in rapid succession. High wave action also leads to
strong currents.
