Watches & Warnings

Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 3:29 PM CST Jan. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST
Wednesday...

* current trends... light to moderate snow is ongoing over parts of
northern Iowa and will continue this evening. There could be a
period of localized heavy snow overnight as well.

* Storm total snow accumulations... 8 to 12 inches with the highest
amounts toward the Minnesota border. Very localized higher snow
amounts may be possible across far northern Iowa.

* Winds/visibility... northwest winds of 25 to 30 with gusts as
high as 40 mph are expected Wednesday. Substantial visibility
restrictions due to snowfall tonight and then blowing and
drifting snow Wednesday are forecast.

* Impacts... roads are anticipated to become snow covered and very
slick. In addition, the snow and blowing snow will create
visibility restrictions leading to extremely hazardous
travel... particularly impacting the rush hour commute this
evening as well as Wednesday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected. Significant amounts of snow are forecast
that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If
you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
