The Flood Warning continues for
the Saint Joseph River Michigan at Niles
* until Sunday March 04.
* At 6 am Sunday the stage was 15.1 feet and falling.
* Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will fall below the 11.0 foot flood stage
around 1 am Saturday March 3.
* At 15.0 feet... major flooding can be expected in Niles. High water
will affect water, marmont, river, and 2nd streets in Niles. High
water will also affect residents living on the first floor of
buildings along River Street.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Saint Joseph River Michigan at South Bend
* until further notice.
* At 6 am Sunday the stage was 10.5 feet and falling.
* Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 5.5 feet.
* Forecast... the river will fall to near 10.4 feet around 7 am
Sunday February 25.
* At 11.0 feet... flooding exceeds the record flood of 10.9 feet.
Business areas near Indiana University at South Bend Campus are
flooded. Residents in river commons, near Keller Park, north of
Northshore drive between Angela Blvd and Lafayette streets are
flooded. Record flood will be in progress in western portions of
Mishawaka and South Bend. Flooding closes portions of Northshore
drive and Northside Blvd. Evacuations are necessary and the
wastewater treatment plant will be completely flooded.

La Porte County in northwestern Indiana...
Cass County in southwestern Michigan...
Berrien County in southwestern Michigan...

* until 1145 am EST Sunday/1045 am CST Sunday/

* trained spotters and emergency management continued to report some
flooding and closed roads across the Flood Warning area. Areal
flooding has improved in some locations, but several roads remain
closed due to standing water across the area. Significant flooding
continues along streams and rivers. Additional rainfall from early
Saturday morning through Saturday night of one quarter to one half
inch is expected. If locally higher rainfall amounts are received,
some renewed lowland flooding will be possible. Significant
flooding of locations near streams and rivers will likely continue
into early next week.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
South Bend, Elkhart, Mishawaka, Goshen, Michigan City, La Porte,
Niles, Benton Harbor, Plymouth, St. Joseph, Nappanee, Dowagiac,
Westville, Bremen, Buchanan, Knox, Georgetown, Winamac, Trail Creek
and Granger.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 am EST /9 am CST/
this morning...

Hazardous weather...

* west winds behind a cold front increasing to 30 mph with gusts
   to 45 to 55 mph overnight.

* The strongest wind gusts are expected for a 2 to 4 hour
   period from west to east overnight into early Sunday morning
   in association with a cold front tracking across the area.
   Gusty winds will continue through the day Sunday, but wind
   gusts will diminish to around 30 mph later Sunday morning.

Impacts...

* loose items such as garbage cans will be blown around in
   these gusty winds. Secure your belongings. Driving high
   profile vehicles will also become difficult overnight.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 30 mph or gusts of
45 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving
difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra
caution.
