Lake Effect Snow Warning
Issued: 10:04 AM EST Dec. 9, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect snow warning in effect until 6 am EST Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a lake effect
snow warning... which is in effect until 6 am EST Saturday. The
lake effect Snow Advisory is no longer in effect.

* Locations... Monroe County. Greatest amounts across the eastern
suburbs of Rochester and along the Lake Ontario shoreline.

* Timing... through late tonight.

* Accumulations... 3 to 5 inches today and 4 to 7 inches tonight.
Leading to an additional 7 to 12 inches of snow in the most
persistent snow.

* Winds... northwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Visibilities... a quarter mile or less at times in the heaviest
snow fall.

* Impacts... heavy lake effect snow and areas of blowing snow
will lead to significant accumulations of snow on area
roadways and very poor visibilities at times... resulting in
hazardous travel conditions at times within the most intense
portion of the band. If you must travel be prepared for
difficult winter driving conditions with greatly reduced
visibility and deep snow cover on roads.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow
in narrow bands to clear skies just a few miles away. If you will
be traveling across the region be prepared for rapid changes in
Road and visibility conditions.
